Contributoria was an open platform for independent journalism that ran from January 2014 to October 2015. The community produced 21 monthly issues here.

Who was behind it?

The team included Matt McAlister @mattmcalister, Sarah Hartley @foodiesarah, Rev Dan Catt @revdancatt, Dean Vipond @deanvipond, Nat Buckley @thatnatbuckley, Robert Ingram-Smith @ringrams.

Guardian Media Group owned the project. GMG supported it following an initial grant from the International Press Institute (IPI) and Google's News Innovation Fund.

What was it for?

The point of Contributoria was to support freelance journalism through peer review and crowdfunding. We wanted to demonstrate some new ways of working by opening up participation in the journalism process. The team plans to continue developing ways of supporting journalism, so be sure to follow them in the future.

What happened to the articles? is now an archive for all the work produced here. We have preserved the articles which you can find on the Issues page
